Mr. Vashist is a painter working in Delhi. He is from village Bavapuda in Barabanki Dist, which is 1 Km from the site of VPT phone. On June 3rd his father expired. There was no means to communicate this message to Vashist from the village, as the ordinary communication facilities are not available.

Vashist’s brother suddenly remembered about Inmarsat Phone. He came by riding bicycle to the house of Mr. Udit Narayan Das (Custodian) and requested for making a call. He informed Vashist about the sad news of his father’s demise. On next day Mr.Vashit reached home.

Mr. Ajay is from Revusa Village in Sitapur Dist, about 30 Km from Hetmapur, the site of the VPT. He is a Sari merchant in Navsari, Gujrat that is about 1500 Km away from his village. His parents fixed Ajay’s marriage with a girl from the same village.

Ajay’s father Mr. Malik was trying to contact him for two three days. But could not contact him. Then one of his relatives informed him about the new Sat-phone installed at Hetmapur. Suddenly he rushed to Hetmapur and requested Mr. Udit Nrayan Das (Custodian) to make a call for him.

Mr. Malik talked to his son for 10 Mts. about the happy news of his son’s marriage. He was extremely happy and thanked Mr.Udit Narayan Das for providing this phone service to the public. He told that he had even tried to make call to Gujrat many times from some fixed phones on the previous day, but was getting ‘all the lines are busy’ announcement. But from Inmarsat VPT he got connection in the first attempt. Mr. Udit Narayan told him that, with this phone uses satellite for the call and does not use terrestrial line of Barabanki.

  • The First VPT using Inmarsat Large Antenna Mini M (LAMM) satphones was inagurated by then Hon’ble minister of communications Shri. Beni Prsad Verma on 2nd Oct 1997 at Hetmapur.

This village has no electricity/road

Most of the people are engaged in agriculture of wheat, rice etc.

Nearest phone is 20km away in Sitapur.
